Artificial Insemination

We can provide cooled semen via overnight airborne express for AI by your veterinarian.

Back to Stallions

AI is somewhat tricky, but it allows breeders to choose from a wide selection of genetics from all over America and Canada. For example, AI has allowed us to use a champion dressage stallion who lives in far away New York. To be successful, keep your mare near a stallion, observe, record, and LEARN her cycles. Recording events and behaviors on a calendar. Get and read a good book on the subject (we can recommend one).

Your veterinarian will want to monitor your mare's ovulation, watching her ovum follicle with ultrasound. (This means several trips to the vet or boarding your mare at the vet's facility.) Timing is critical! You must plan ahead and TIME IT PERFECTLY. Your mare must be inseminated on the last day of her heat cycle, at the time of her actual ovulation. We need at least 48 hours notice for semen collection and shipping.

In addition to the normal stud fee, mare owners are responsible for semen collection costs ($150 per shipment) and their own veterinarian's AI fees (typically $150). A shipping deposit is also required for air transportation ($50 per shipment) and the use of an insulated, shipping vessel. (Shipping vessels cost $200, but they can be rented). If you're still interested, please call weeks ahead so we can council you and begin coordinating our efforts.
